I hope you are having a great start to your week! Even though I wanted to get this post out to you earlier in the month, due to some health setbacks that hasn’t been an option. I have recently really had to pace myself with the blogging which has been challenging but it has meant I have been able to take extra care in the selection that I am sharing with you today. So with the autumn just around the corner, I wanted to share with you a few of my favourite things that have me excited for the new season. I have put together this post with my style, home decor and food in mind and I really hope you like it. I am looking forward to curating more autumnal themed posts, as it is my favourite season. I also wanted to let you know that I do not only choose items that have affiliate links, which probably doesn’t make much business sense but I like to share items that I am truly passionate about regardless to whether or not they have affiliate links.
Sending you love and light,
When it comes to Autumn style, I am almost always drawn to pieces that are classic in nature. This coat by ba&sh is a great example of a timeless style and just imagine how perfect its pallet would look against the warm hues of the beautiful colours that the autumn graces us with.
How to style: I love the idea of wearing a coat like this with a double denim combo or trying it with white jeans, a cable-knit fitted sweater and slouchy boots. Or you could go a little more feminine by combining it with a pleated skirt, turtleneck and some brogues. Purchase the Coat HERE & Another great ( more affordable) option HERE
What’s Autumn without a pair of ankle boots?! I look forward to digging out all of my old favourite pairs but I also have my eyes on this pair by Massimo Dutti. I would wear them with middi dresses and a blazer for a classic-chic Fall look. Or I would opt for a pair of high waisted jeans with a slight slouch to them, tucked in to the boots and then a victorian style blouse. Purchase them – HERE
I love buying or receiving new mugs, they are a small simplicity that I take great joy in collecting. I especially love having ones that reflect the current seasons. Though I can imagine these stoneware mugs all year round, there is something quite charming about them with Autumn in mind. They are a little pricy and unfortunately they are currently out of stock but you can do what I did and sign up to be notified for when they come back in stock. Sign up HERE
Choosing a scent that compliments the new or current season, I believe, is imperative to helping create the perfect home environment. This autumnal must-have candle by The White Company is called Fireside and has a very heartwarming scent. For people like myself who aren’t fortunate enough to have a real fireplace, I am able to create that warm and cosy ambiance, simply by lighting this candle. Available HERE
If you are anything like me, then you’ll like to start the autumn by updating your Fall wardrobe with good knits! Yes, it’s one of the first things, sartorially speaking, that I like to invest in come the fall. I have recently treated myself to this soft pink cardigan by & Other Stories. I love it’s gentle hue and it’s a great way to transition from summer to autumn. I am going to wear mine layered over my floral dresses for now and then later i’ll wear it with jeans and sneakers, a scarf, jeans and then a coat of my choice. Buy yours HERE
Speaking of scarfs, it seems like a life time since I last invested in a good scarf. I have seen a few that I like but in particular, this checked wool scarf by Arket is amongst the favourites. It’s from the mens department but that really doesn’t matter and will not be stopping me. If you like it, HERE is the link.
Even though I have always enjoyed the taste of butternut squash, especially for a wonderfully warming autumnal soup, I have never really introduced it into my everyday meals as I always found it such a faff to prepare. Now, I can’t get enough and my current favourite way to enjoy this autumn vegetable is by roasting it..
I cut the butternut squash in half and peel. Then I chop into small pieces, steam for 5-10 minutes and then roast them in thyme, rosemary and a little garlic powder for about 30 minutes. This is such an easy meal, it is so yummy and definitely worth a try.
My sister got me into Gilmore girls a couple of years ago. And now when autumn rolls around I can’t wait to re-watch this cosy and easy watch. I know some people don’t like to watch movies/series that they’ve already seen but I love it. I like to get snuggled up on the sofa (whilst Nova-Rose is napping) with a hot cup of tea and just sink into the many words that are exchanged in this classic series.
Autumn is a time for getting cosy and the beginning of bringing in those extra layers. A couple of years ago I received some cashmere bed socks via The White company and well, i’ve never looked back. It’s definitely a luxury but one that is justified. Also, they make a great gift for those who have birthdays this time of year or as a thoughtful christmas present. I know I just mentioned christmas but we’re in September and so fair game by my rules. Buy yours HERE
I love florals anytime of the year but like the spring, there is something romantic about wearing them in the autumn. I also think they can look really chic! I love this blouse via & Other Stories. I would style it with denim shorts, slouchy boots and an oversized cardigan for now and then further into the autumn swap the shorts for jeans. Available HERE
I have wanted a good pair of black jeans for a while now but I cant seem to settle on a pair. That said this pair from Arket are under serious consideration. Shop them HERE
I am a very festive person, me, my mum and my sister are for a matter of fact! Come the autumn we especially like to fill our homes with some autumnal decor, whether thats bringing the outside in with some touches of nature found from our walks or it could be by investing in something shop brought. Either way we love it. I adore these autumnal lights via Rowen & Wren. They are perfect for various places around the home and I think they would look great for an autumn themed dinner party, a simple but effective touch for table decor. Available HERE
I have already mentioned my love for adding some autumnal touches to the home and one of my favourite ways to do this is by changing my cushions covers or by swapping my lighter blankets to something a little warmer. Our home is old and though I love that because of the charm it lends, it also means chilly winters! So, keeping cosy blankets well stocked is a must and so why not make them stylish feature?! This checked blanket by Hudson home would sit nicely on the arm rest on any sofa. Buy yours HERE
You may or may not already know but I love essential oils and even more so since I received an electric diffuser last Christmas. Making my own little blends is something I always enjoy doing, especially when I put Nova-Rose down to bed and I can finally switch the diffuser on, sit down and enjoy a proper cup of tea. I really want to embrace the autumnal scents that this new season has to offer and so I have recently ordered Cinnamon and clove essential oils to add to my ever growing collection.
If you are stuck for essential oil blends for Fall, then head over to Pinterest, there are lots of great ideas on there. I particularly like the sound of this recipe.
Gilmore Girls aside, my other all time Autumnal watch is “When Harry Met Sally” I mostly love it for sartorial inspiration, the knitwear is everything!!! But even since I first watched it just a few years ago, it has become a little tradition of my own that I look forward to snuggling up with a hot cup of something and watching this romantic, cosy classic each Autumn.
Me and my mum fell in love with these sweet felt pears via The White Company as soon as we laid eyes on them. An understated touch that is still wonderfully festive and in keeping with the season. They would make great table decor or in a clear vase. I even like the idea of using one or two as a present topper for any autumn birthdays you may have to buy for. Available HERE
Though I have only recently come across this saddle bag, I included it because I can’t help but admire its classic appeal. I like bags that are spacious enough to hold all my main things and then, a bit extra. But I also don’t want it too big that they are just completely impractical (unless it’s for a specific look). This style by Penelope Chilvers can be bought HERE.
Fruit loaf is a favourite autumn food of mine, the smell alone makes buying a loaf worth it. Due to a recent dietary requirement I have had to switch to a gluten free version, which wasn’t half as bad as I thought it would be and like I said, the smell is everything and the smell is just as good. Though I am very conscious of my dairy intake, loading up on butter for this treat makes it all that much yummier.
Me, my mum and my sister try and get crafty this time of year and looking on pinterest for new inspiration really gets me in the mood for Fall. I stumbled across this neat idea the other day, which looks simple ( I like to keep it simple, I don’t have the patience for anything too tricky) and not too costly. I think these would look great outdoors on a crisp autumn day. Find out more HERE
