This metallic pleated dress that I bought from Topshop back in November is still one of my favourite pieces to not just wear but style! The metallic green really does update the classic shape and overall style of the dress, making it feel modern but not in a way that feels too unfamiliar  to me. Dresses do not tend to be my most consistent buys and so I have to really love and adore them to make that kind of commitment. One the reasons is they are not the most versatile of designs compared to lets say a skirt. You only really have to add the shoes, bag and possibly a jacket. That is if we are talking in spring/summer terms of style. But all that said, I do like the challenge that somewhat restriction poses.  For todays look I wanted to continue classic with an edge vibe and I layered this pleated dress over a striped shirt, I always think a little collar detail looks chic. It was a little chilly at the time of wearing this, so I tried on my camel coloured cardigan which isn’t the first colour that would usually come to mind for a dress like this but I believe the unexpected nature of this combination works.

Sometimes you just have to try these things, it’s surprising whats works. At this point I felt I was starting go into librarian chic and so why not top that off with a vintage broach, which belonged to my great grandmother originally. Now I know a stylish little kitten heel would have been a nice choice but I opted for a pair of black ankle boots for a masculine touch on a predominantly feminine outfit.

Do you like styling dresses?

Take care,
